I dreamed I was in college again, only I was my age now. And I decided to try out for cheerleader again. I needed to lose weight, and I had a lot to do to get in shape again. People who worked with the squad were helping me. One of them was a girl who had been a cheerleader IRL before me, and was my big sister in my sorority. My old female cheerleading coach was helping me too, plus a couple of other people I’d never met IRL. I could tell it wasn’t certain I’d be ready by tryouts, and I didn’t want it to become awkward with those helping me if I didn’t make it, so I let them know I knew I had a long way to go and I understood if I didn’t make it. They seemed relieved. But in my head, I planned to work very hard and do all I could to try to make it. Well it turned out I did make the squad. And it was about to be the first event. However, since I’m tall for a female cheerleader on a completely coed team, I couldn’t do my stunts inside the building because I would hit my head. The current coach said I couldn’t attend. The team and others defended me and said it wasn’t fair. They said we needed to do something, either fix the room so I could stunt, have the event somewhere else, or let me be there without stunting. She agreed and said she’d definite have the building fixed so I could stunt and participate at future events, but for this one, she said I’d have to sit it out. I kind of understood, it may not look right with me not stunting, though I was certainly disappointed. At least it was just one event. Others there were still discussing it, trying to work it out. I hoped it would work out, because it could be embarrassing if everyone knew I couldn’t cheer because my head would hit the ceiling. Not that that was bad, but sometimes people could just make things sound bad. But still, at least it was only one event at worst I’d be missing. I thought all of this as I walked away hearing them discussing everything in the background. Note: Cheerleading in college was a huge accomplishment of mine. I sort of felt like trying out for cheerleader in this dream represented some big and very important things I'd like to accomplish now as an adult. Could this be true?
Dreams about returning to familiar places or experiences from your past, especially during formative years such as college, often signify a desire to reconnect with a part of yourself — in this case, your aspiration and drive to achieve significant goals. Here’s a detailed interpretation of your dream:
Returning to college but as your current self might represent a desire to revisit past successes or the ambition and energy you had during that period. College can symbolize learning, growth, and a time of laying foundations for future success, suggesting you may be seeking similar growth and achievement in your present life.
Cheerleading, which was a major achievement for you, symbolizes striving for excellence and the desire for recognition or validation in your current pursuits. It might indicate that you feel a need to prove yourself or accomplish something significant, akin to gaining a spot on a competitive team.
The need to get into shape could reflect your awareness of personal development required to attain these new goals. It may not necessarily be about physical fitness, but rather sharpening your skills or preparing yourself mentally and emotionally for upcoming challenges.
The people helping you in your dream—both those you’ve known and others you haven’t—could symbolize the support you have or need. Friends, mentors, or colleagues could be instrumental in your current life journey. The presence of your sorority sister and coach suggests that past mentors or friendships continue to influence and guide you.
Expressing understanding that you might not make the team reflects your realistic acknowledgment of obstacles. Your internal drive, however, shows a strong commitment to working hard regardless of the outcome.
Making the squad and facing challenges at the first event highlights the concept of achieving your goal (making the team) but also encountering unforeseen real-world constraints (stunting issues). This part of your dream could indicate anxiety about achieving your goals but then finding new, practical challenges once the initial goal is achieved.
The support you received underlines the importance of a supportive network in overcoming obstacles. It implies hope and a belief in your capabilities, encouraging you not to be disheartened by initial setbacks.
Although you were disappointed about sitting out the event, your understanding reflects maturity and a realistic outlook on setbacks. This could symbolize your resilience and ability to see the bigger picture with patience.
The discussion for future adaptation shows optimism and faith in progressive improvement. It suggests that while immediate solutions might not be possible, ongoing efforts and support will likely yield positive results in the long term.
In essence, your dream mirrors the journey of setting a significant goal and the process involved — from preparation, facing fears of inadequacy, receiving support, achieving the goal, to handling unexpected challenges with grace. It appears to be a symbolic trial run for real-life ambitions where you hope to succeed despite barriers. This dream suggests you’re on the right path, with a blend of ambition, readiness to work hard, and acceptance of challenges as opportunities for growth.
